IAMDDB – #MermaidSeason

Today let’s talk about Miss #MermaidSeason herself IAMDDB, for me this lady is something else I will blame procrastination for not writing about her earlier on, I mean as from as early as last year when I first bumped into her music.

Okay now back to the topic at hand which is IAMDDB, any guess on what that stands for? IAMDDB is an acronym on her real name I AM Diana De Brito that’s nice right?

This lady is from Manchester in England and for me she is part of the group of artists (Little Simz (I wrote about her on Female Rappers Flying under the Radar), Ebenezer (I wrote about him on R&B Artist to Look out for in 2018) Mahalia, and Col3trane just to name a few) which whom I think are doing everything differently when it comes to the whole R&B and Hip-Hop England music scene that we’ve all become used to from guys like Tinie Tempah and them.

When she is interviewed she says her music is Urban Jazz but I think I would say Masego does that and she does what I would call Trap Soul as her stuff might be part of the Soul music but has a huge influence from Trap music if you don’t think so play Shade and tell me what you think about it. In essence she does what Ebenezer, Col3trane and Bryson Tiller do but with her own twist which makes it even nicer.

Over the last three years, she has released four EP’s of which the first two have 6 tracks each and the third one has 7 tracks with the latest one having 8 tracks. Those EP’s are WAEVYBBY Volume 1, Vibe Volume 2, Hoodrich Vol. 3 and the latest one being Flightmode Vol. 4.

If you were to say Thabang choose your favorite project I would be torn between Hoodrich Vol. 3 and Flightmode Vol. 4 because that’s where she goes hard on this whole trap vibe that you hear on Shade which by the way is my favorite track. The other two EP’s go along the line of Erykah Badu and yeah some of you guys might vibe with that but those who know me, know that my music has to be urban and current.

  2. Watrfall
  3. Thots
  4. Drippy
  5. Loose Change

With the tracks mentioned above I suggest you go listen to the last two EP’s in full no skipping and then with the first two you can listen to Pause, Teardrops (Feat. Mugun), Back Again & Childsplay, Ur Highness those are the five tracks which I like from the first 2 projects and yeah you should also listen to a track called Leaned Out where sheis featured by a Producer called Inka you will find the video below
